Panagia Koumpelina

The church is a building of the 11th century and is a cruciform temple with a dome. It was hagiographed in the 14th century, but with time and the many interventions in the church, the hagiographies were destroyed and only the Pantokrator on the dome of the church was saved. A narthex was added to the church in the 16th century. In the renovation of the church, a grave was found in the area of the narthex dating back to the same century and is believed to be that of the owner of the church’s narthex.
The tradition says that the icon of the Virgin Mary came from Constantinople and was tied on the round marble column and the right-hand column in the nave. The older people said that there were bushes in this area and they tried to build the church in another place but the icon still went to this place and that is why the church was built in this place. Another tradition says that the big icon that is on the left side of the iconostasis, the big icon of the Virgin Mary, which is very miraculous, does not accept to be covered with glass and cover its face. This information is stories told to us by our parents and grandparents and passed from mouth to mouth and from generation to generation,. But the information is not verified and valid.

In the church there is also the icon of Zoodochos Pigi worked in the Cretan style.
